Designed to progress along with children as they learn and grow, New Attitudes’ Cecchetti Ballet program brings dancers of all ballet levels back to the basics.
We are excited to announce our Elements of Ballet classes for the 2023-24 dance season! This class emphasizes the Cecchetti Method of ballet training, which is a progressive system of training dancers from a pre-ballet beginning level to a professional level.
Cecchetti training is a method which pays careful attention to anatomy and physiology. It develops all of the qualities essential to the dancer: form, balance, poise, strength, and endurance. It is classic in its purity and clear cut style. In this class, we encourage classic hair buns, ballet shoes, and pink tights and leotards. Dancers will train mainly at the barre.
Elements of Ballet (Ages 4-7)
The first of its kind, the beginning class for ages 4-7 years old is designed for those who have little to no experience. Dancers will be instructed in a creative environment where they will develop camaraderie as well as poise and musicality. Love for dance will be nourished and welcome a foundation for continued training.

Elements of Ballet (Ages 11+)
The class will help students increase their bodily awareness to improve their form and poise and advance strength, endurance and balance. Dancers completing this class will embody classical ballet in its purity and simplicity of style.

Meet Our Instructor
Alexandrea Riley (Alex) grew up dancing at a small studio in mid-Michigan. She is trained specifically in the Cecchetti method, but proficient in many dance styles, as ballet is her first love.
Alex has been a choreographer to the local community Nutcracker since 2008 and a ballroom dance instructor. She’s coached five Mirror Ball Trophy winners and two Fan Favorite winners for the local Dancing With Our Stars Home Health Hospice Fundraiser.
She works as Contingent Faculty at Northern Michigan University where she teaches Chemistry and received her Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology. She and her husband Patrick have two daughters, ages 4 and 5.
With a love for both fitness and dance, Alex is also certified in Progressive Ballet Technique, which is an amazing program to help cross-train dancers gain strength and prevent injury.
She is excited to return to teach Ballet for the 2023-24 dance season at the Dance Loft sponsored by New Attitudes. She’ll run two classes this year: one for ages 4-7 and one for ages 11+ with plans to offer an additional class for ages 8-10 next season.
