“Dance is for Everyone” is our belief at New Attitudes Dance Studios. As a leading Marquette Dance Studio, whether you want to dance for fun, exercise, or on a performance and competitive level, there’s something for everyone! We offer over 10 genres/styles of dance classes at the studio. Come join us!
Little Munchkins (18 months to 3 years) This class is set up to provide a fun experience for toddlers in creative movement and several fun dance and coordination exercises at the studio. There are no high expectations and we understand that these little ones are just that… little. They are just getting out in the world and experiencing curriculums of all sorts. As long as they have fun and participate in whatever they feel on any given day, they have accomplished something! Students do not need to be potty trained and they can wear anything made for dance or active wear. A pair of ballet slippers are recommended, but not required. A parent or adult needs to be present—and is welcome to observe—but does not need to participate in class.
Tot (Ages 3 to 4 years)
Tot Class is a creative movement class that encourages exploration, free expression, independence and cooperation. In this class we teach young students the basic elements of dance—including rhythm, movement quality, space, body awareness and shape. The child’s imagination and self-esteem are encouraged and strengthened through dance as they explore combinations and exercises in Jazz, Tap, and Ballet. Our Tot Class is designed to guide your little dancer on their journey of self expression and the passion for dance. We have created a warm and inviting atmosphere for them to learn, grow and to build a solid foundation for your child's transition to our next level classes. But most of all… it's intended to be LOTS of fun!
Jazz (Tot 2 to Advanced Level of all ages)
Steeped in the rhythm of jazz music—a true American art form—jazz brings energy and life to all those who dance it. Classes explore body isolations of the head, shoulders, ribcage, feet and arms, and encourage individual expression and development of personal style. Jazz can be powerful and percussive, or expressive and lyrical. Ever evolving, our Jazz classes are full of rhythm, syncopation, passion and life, and taught with the music and choreography styles of today. Classes teach a leveled jazz technique that advances in level each year, along with focus on terminology and movement quality with an emphasis on proper execution of jazz isolations, rhythms and style performed to various music genres. Enjoyable for every age!
Tap (Tot 2 to Advanced Level for all ages) Learn how to make music with your feet! New Attitudes Tap Classes are designed to emphasize the development and strengthening of tap technique and terminology, highlighting the importance of rhythm and sound. Tap focuses on rhythms and intricate footwork, creating a percussion instrument out of the dancer’s feet. Just like jazz vocalists who add rhythms to music by scatting, tappers add their voice by “scatting” with their feet. Tap dancing requires agility, rhythm and coordination—skills that are thoroughly integrated in the tap dance classes taught by our talented and skilled instructors. Classes incorporate the Al Gilbert Technique Levels into today's contemporary styles of tap dancing.
Ballet (1st Grade Students to Adult) Ballet builds classical technique, understanding of proper dance terminology, and discipline. Ballet technique classes are the foundation for training and focus on understanding correct body placement, proper use of turn out, coordination of the upper body, and use of arms. New Attitudes Ballet Classes are available to students of all skill levels. Our focus is overall body alignment and awareness with emphasis on proper usage of feet, legs, and execution of turnout. Carriage and usage of upper torso and arms are also stressed. Traditional barre work, center work and combinations are included in all classes. Ballet forms an essential part of all types of dance, and therefore ballet is recommended to any student planning to compete, audition, or pursue dance on any level.
Flex and Tech Anyone can get more flexible with some focus and dedication! This class improves flexibility using stretches that will unlock your body, release tension, and improve technique. Flexibility is important to improve leaps, kicks, and jumps that are used in many different dance styles. And Tech focuses on conditioning, strengthening, and stretching to enhance a dancer’s overall skill level. We believe it's important to understand how the body works and then apply it to individual students, as every body type is different. In this class we'll teach new tricks and methods for your individual level of flexibility combined with one-on-one critiques to help make you a better dancer. Your muscles will become longer and stronger, enabling a higher level of performance in everything you do!
Acro Acro is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Often defined by unique choreography, acro dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, line and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context. This class teaches strength, flexibility, balance and coordination to perform gymnastic-based tricks. Students perform conditioning exercises to prepare them for increased difficulty. New Attitudes follows the Acrobatic Arts AcroDance program based on safe and effective progressions with proven results in five divisions of AcroDance: flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering and tumbling.
Shooting Starz
Shooting Starz dance classes provides a therapeutic and artistic outlet for self-expression through the movement of dance and music for students with special needs. Classes will focus on creative movement, stretching, and being able to express emotions in a safe, judge-free environment while encouraging everyone to showcase their strengths and abilities. Classes are designed for children who prefer smaller class sizes to allow for enough support and supervision for those who need it. Class size is capped at 8 students.
Lyrical (ages 6 and older)
Lyrical dance is a modern dance form which fuses modern dance, jazz, and ballet. Lyrical dance requires excellent technique to perform, as the moves are often difficult and precise. Moreover, the dancer must be well aware of facial expressions, essentially acting, to properly perform a lyrical dance piece. Lyrical classes are taught using movement to communicate the words and feelings of a song.
Modern
Modern—an organic, expressive, and experimental form of dance—was created in rebellion to the strictness of classical ballet. Encompassing a wide variety of styles, it focuses on reflecting the natural flows and rhythms of our bodies, our emotions, and our environment. Sound accompaniment ranges from pure silence to African-inspired, to classical music, and most anything in between. A highly expressive and raw, evocative art form, Modern incorporates floor work, contact movement and improvisation, along with various levels of more traditional techniques to produce an intensely powerful contemporary dance experience.
Hip-Hop (2nd grade students to adult)
A high-energy class that uses the latest sounds in rap, R&B and pop music together with movements influenced by some of today’s hottest video choreographers. Hip hop encompasses movement that has elements of poppin’, locking, and breaking as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style. Hip hop is urban, it’s street, it’s diverse and forever changing. A Jazz class is recommended along side of this class for proper technique instruction.
Musical Theater
Musical Theater is a style based off of dancing that is rooted in the diverse history of Broadway musicals. Musical Theater dance focuses on storytelling through movement and choreography to communicate a message or story to an audience. In this class, dancers will learn about musical interpretation, characterization, acting, facial expressions and lip syncing. Musical Theater dance builds confidence and acting skills, and can be valuable for dancers of all styles and genres!
Breakdance
Breakdance is an energetic, freestyle-based form of street dancing. It combines toprock, drops, footwork, power moves and freezes to create a set. Dancers will explore the freedom of freestyle dance to combine elements of different styles with their own creative ideas to express themselves and create a unique style of their own. There are many individual styles used in breakdancing which allow dancers to share their strengths with others while continually learning more.
Beginner Hoops
This class includes the foundational moves of hoop dance, how to find your own unique style of hoop flow, combos and fun sequences. Think of it as jazz with a fun prop, circus tricks with dance elements, and movement art that flows along with music. You’ll also get practice tips, progress pointers, and bonus tricks!
Advanced Hoops
Contemporary elements blended with more advanced circus tricks that flow smoothly with modern choreography. Hooping increases your core strength, flexibility and coordination while keeping you engaged and smiling.
Contemporary
Contemporary is a new form of dance created in the nineteenth century that combines elements of modern dance and ballet. Contemporary allows dancers to be more stylized and have less structure than ballet or modern. In this class, dancers will explore improvisation, new technique and stylization.
Adult Hip-Hop
Similar style to Adult Heels, this is a hip-hop class at the beginner level. Moms, college students, and adults alike can learn the basics of hip-hop dance. A small combination will be taught every week with the last 10 minutes of class for filming those who would like to be filmed. This is a non-competitive, inclusive for all adults class!
